The red fly agaric has become part of a modern approach to health. However, when choosing this mushroom for microdosing, there is a wide range in price. It is also available in various formats. Today, we’ll look at what makes up the price of dried fly agaric mushrooms, what it depends on, and why an excessively low price should be a red flag⚠️.
What determines the price of fly agaric mushrooms?
The price range is huge🍄. Some people might sell dried fly agaric for 100 UAH per 10 grams, whilst others charge 400–600 UAH. The main question is: why such a difference?
It's simple:
- Harvesting location and environmental safety. Like any mushroom, the fly agaric absorbs everything from its surroundings. If the mushroom is harvested near roads, landfill sites or industrial areas, it may contain lead, cadmium and other toxins. For safe microdosing, mushrooms are harvested in high-altitude or forested regions with verified soil conditions. It is precisely these mushrooms that command a higher price for fly agarics.
- Harvesting time. It is important to know when to pick fly agaric mushrooms. The most valuable ones are young, firm caps picked at the start of the season, when the concentration of active compounds is at its highest. Overripe or overgrown mushrooms are cheaper, but their benefits are significantly reduced.
- Processing and drying. The price of the fly agaric includes not only the mushroom itself, but also the preparation process 🔥. To preserve all its properties, the fly agaric is dried at low temperatures — up to 45 °C — away from direct sunlight, with humidity carefully controlled. This is a slow, labour-intensive process that often takes several days. Cheap mushrooms are often simply dried in the open air or in an oven — as a result, they lose some of their active compounds and sometimes alter their chemical composition.
- Storage quality. Proper airtight packaging is just as important. Reputable producers store red fly agaric in humidity-controlled bags or in special light-proof containers. Cheap mushrooms are often sold simply in polythene bags — and within a few weeks they lose their aroma, colour and potency.

How does the form of release affect the cost?
Capsules 💊 are the most convenient and safest option. Precise dosage, consistent composition, and guaranteed purity. Here, the cost of taking fly agaric for a month is between 400 and 800 UAH per jar. But this ensures quality.
Dried caps are the more traditional form, the most popular among experienced users. The average price for fly agaric is between 250 and 400 UAH per 10 grams.
Ground mushrooms are also convenient for measuring out and preparing infusions. The price per 10 grams also ranges from 220 to 370 UAH.
Why are penny toadstools dangerous?
In the world of microdosing, it is common to come across pseudo-producers⚠️ who buy mushrooms at markets or dry them at home. There are also those who do not process the mushrooms, or who pick and dry them along with the soil.
These toadstools are, of course, two or three times cheaper. The counterfeiters simply want to make a sale, and the lower price still attracts buyers. But what about the risks? They are, of course, enormous:
- Lack of toxicity testing. Mushrooms picked in an unknown location may have absorbed lead, cadmium, pesticides and other toxins. Without laboratory analysis, no one knows what you are putting into your body. This is not simply a ‘natural product’, but a potential source of poisoning.
- Incorrect drying. This is the most critical point. At too high a temperature, the active substances break down, and at too low a temperature, ibotenic acid does not convert into muscimol. It is muscimol that provides the mild, calming effect and aids in microdosing. Ibotenic acid, on the other hand, is the toxin that induces euphoria.
- Risk of mould or bacteria contamination. Without proper ventilation and humidity control, the fungus is easily affected by mould. It may not be visible to the naked eye, but the spores can end up in the powder or capsules. This can cause poisoning, allergic reactions and digestive problems.
- Incorrect moisture content. If the mushroom is not dried properly, it starts to spoil from the inside, even if it looks ‘normal’ on the outside. You won’t notice this at all in capsules or ground form. Such a product loses its stability, and you won’t get any of the expected effects from it.
That is precisely why the effects of cheap toadstools are unpredictable. You never know exactly how much of the active substances you will ingest, or how your body will react.
Microdosing is not an experiment, but a delicate process involving the nervous system. That is why purity, precision and the quality of the raw materials are so important. And if you choose the fly agaric as a natural tool for recovery and combating addiction, it must be tried and tested, laboratory-tested and properly dried.
