A mushroom that was considered poisonous and dangerous for centuries is now seen as a tool for inner balance 🧘♀️. We’re talking about the red fly agaric. Also known as Amanita muscaria. For many, the mushroom still provokes mixed reactions 😮. But modern science is changing perceptions of it.
The main thing to understand is that the fly agaric is not a psychedelic in the traditional sense 🧠. It does not cause hallucinations or alter reality. Of course, this applies to microdosing. Instead, the mushroom gently affects the deeper layers of the psyche and bodily sensations. How exactly? Let’s explore this further.
Neurological effects 🧬
The mechanism of action of Amanita muscaria is based on its interaction with gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors. These are also known as GABA receptors, GABA, or GABA. They are responsible for inhibitory processes in the nervous system. The active compound in the mushroom, muscimol, acts as an agonist for these receptors. In other words, it activates them, much like a natural tranquilliser.
In microdoses (usually between 0.2 and 0.5 g of dried mushroom), the fly agaric does not alter consciousness. It merely gently reduces anxiety levels, relieves internal tension and aids concentration 💡. Many users report improved sleep quality 😴, reduced muscle spasms and emotional stabilisation. Interestingly, the mushroom also stimulates associative thinking, which explains its popularity among people in creative professions 🎨.
Unlike pharmaceutical anxiolytics (anti-anxiety drugs), microdoses of fly agaric do not cause dependence, do not dull reactions, and have no sedative effect. Its effect is not about ‘switching off’ anxiety. Amanita muscaria supports the nervous system in maintaining flexibility and adaptability 🛡️.
Personalised protocols 📖
Microdosing of the red fly agaric is increasingly being used as a complementary tool when working with:
🔹 anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder;
🔹 chronic pain with a psychosomatic component;
🔹 creative burnout in creative professions.
Microdosing protocols are personalised. And that is precisely what makes it so effective.
One common option is the morning routine. This involves taking a small dose before breakfast, which helps you get into the right frame of mind for a focused, calm working day ☀️.
The Sleep Protocol is designed to be taken in the evening. A deep sleep and an emotional reset are guaranteed.
And my creative routine involves taking Amanita muscaria every other day when I’m actively working on complex projects – at times when I need exceptional concentration and mental flexibility.
To monitor the effects, it is recommended that you keep a daily well-being diary 📓. You can record physical, emotional and cognitive changes. Objective indicators might include sleep quality, stress levels, appetite, ability to concentrate and depth of thought.
Safety first ⚠️
Amanita muscaria is not a new discovery. It was used by the shamans of the northern peoples of Eurasia — in particular the Sami, the Evenks and the Nenets. Indeed, for them it formed the basis of rituals of purification and of entering into special psychophysical states. It was believed to open a connection between the body, the spirit and nature. And even today, in some cultures, it retains its ritual significance.
In Ukraine, as in most European countries, the fly agaric is not included on the list of prohibited substances. Its cultivation, harvesting, storage and sale in dried form are legal.
And although the fly agaric is not banned, it is worth remembering:
✔️ Start with the lowest possible dose;
✔️ Use only mushrooms that have been properly prepared;
✔️ Avoid consuming alcohol at the same time.
Amanita muscaria is not a magic pill, but a complex tool. It demands respect, patience and a willingness to listen to yourself. But for those who are ready to put in the work, this little mushroom will be a real revelation ✨.
