The Trameetes Mushroom — Characteristics, Health Benefits, and How to Use It

The Trameetes Mushroom — Characteristics, Health Benefits, and How to Use It

Among the many functional mushrooms, the trameetes holds a special place. It is also known as the multicolored tinder fungus—due to its whimsical shape and layered pattern, which resembles a peacock’s feathers. But behind this beauty lies not just a forest dweller, but one of the most studied mushrooms with powerful immunomodulatory potential💪.

What is the Trameetes mushroom?

The Trameetes mushroom is a saprophyte that grows on stumps and the trunks of dead trees🌳. It is inedible and belongs to the polypore family. Polypores are a group of mushrooms characterized by a tougher and denser structure.

The job of the multicolored tinder fungus is to act as a cleaner. In the wild, its role is to decompose dead wood, returning nutrients to the ecosystem. Without it and other tinder fungi, our forests would simply be buried under their own debris.

The medicinal properties of the tinder fungus

When considering the medicinal properties of chaga, the key components are PSK (polysaccharide-keratin) and PSP (polysaccharide-peptide). These are complex carbohydrate compounds that our bodies cannot obtain from regular food. They are unique to mushrooms, and chaga contains a very high concentration of them.

PSK and PSP can be thought of as trainers for your immune system. Their effects modulate the immune response in two ways:

  • if the immune system is weak and "dormant" — they gently wake it up and stimulate it to work more actively;
  • If the immune system is overactive (as in the case of allergies or autoimmune conditions), they calm it down, preventing it from attacking the body.

The Trametus mushroom derives its benefits from enzymes. It is with their help that the mushroom naturally breaks down wood. The highest concentrations are of cellulase and ligninase, but other types are present as well. Once inside our bodies, these enzymes act as natural detoxifiers. They help the liver break down and eliminate various toxins, waste products, and metabolic byproducts.

Our Trametus mushroom is also rich in phenols and flavonoids (antioxidants).

Oxidative stress is one of the causes of many chronic diseases and aging. Antioxidants neutralize it. They protect your cells from damage, helping to preserve youthfulness, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of many diseases.

But that’s not all. The mushroom’s polysaccharides (especially beta-glucans), which aren’t digested in the stomach but reach the intestines intact, serve as the perfect food for your beneficial gut flora (probiotics). When good bacteria have something to feed on, they actively multiply and displace harmful bacteria. And a healthy gut is the foundation of everything: a strong immune system (most of which is located right there), good digestion, clear skin, and even a stable mood.

How to take Trametes

Trametes is a mushroom with tremendous health benefits, but to fully realize its potential, it’s important to take it correctly.

The most convenient form to take is, of course, capsules. There’s no need to measure anything out, brew anything, or put up with a peculiar taste. Each capsule contains a ready-to-take, precisely measured dose. Taking them is no different from taking a regular vitamin, but the benefits are often greater.

⏰The best times to take it are in the morning and evening. Take the capsule before a meal. Trametes works over time. For lasting results, a course of treatment lasting 1 to 3 months is recommended, after which you can take a break.

Start with 1 capsule a day and monitor how you feel. After a few days, if everything is fine, you can increase the dose to 2 capsules a day (for example, one in the morning and one at lunchtime).

When can the dose be increased?

There are times when the body needs extra support.

For example, when you're sick 🦠 (cold, flu). The immune system is working overtime. PSK and PSP are exactly what it needs for a quick and effective response. They help the body fight infection more effectively. During this period, you can temporarily increase the dose to 3–4 capsules per day for a short course of 5–7 days.

After drinking alcohol 🍷, it’s also a good idea to increase the dose. You should take two capsules at once in the morning after a night out, and return to your usual regimen in the evening. Trametas’ enzymes will help your liver break down and eliminate toxins more quickly. And its prebiotics will support your microbiome, which also suffers from alcohol.
